Emma Morgan
Props Builder

Emma started her BA in Contemporary Crafts at Plymouth College of Art in 2011, ‘I found the college to be a very inspirational place and I explored all the avenues within my course.’

Emma describes the support she received from the careers team as one of her favourite things about the college. In particular, she cites the weekly emails informing her about jobs and opportunities helped her to secure employment with Nicola Hurst Designer Jewellery, and a volunteering role on a public art project.

‘The skills I learnt at Plymouth College of Art have enabled me to express my love of applied arts, with the added benefit of being able to do things such as making my own wedding rings, furniture or decors for my home.’

Emma is now working as a Props Builder for the film industry in Vancouver, Canada and worked hard to become a member of the IATSE (International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees) union, which secures her employment either on set or in the workshop.

'I am currently working for a TV show called ‘The 100’ as the Lead Mold Maker and am making props for the show. I fabricate a lot of the weapons before moulding and casting; I enjoy using the large scale machinery and tools. My days in the wood workshop at college gave me a great induction into this.’

Emma has worked on a number of shows filmed in Vancouver such as The 100 S4, The Predator, Supergirl and Lost in Space, and describes it as ‘a busy industry with long working hours, but it’s all worth it as I get to do what I love’.
