Louise Tilbury read Politics, Philosophy and Economics at Oxford University before taking an MSc in Social Policy at the London School of Economics. She worked as a Project manager in Health Education for the Saigon Children’s Charity in Vietnam and as a Policy Analyst at her majesty’s Treasury before becoming Project Team Leader for the influential Leitch Review of Skills, and then working Freelance as a Public Policy Consultant, for example writing the economic case for Cornwall’s successful Regional Growth Fund bid for the Cornwall Development Company.

As an entrepreneur, Louise runs Om Padma, a design-led yoga accessories company that works with women’s cooperatives in India, trading in ethically-sourced hand-made textile artefacts.

In 2012 Louise stepped down from her role as Governor of Arts University Plymouth (then Plymouth College of Art) in order to assume the project management of our radical plan to create a mainstream, city centre, 4–16 all-through school that places creativity in all subjects, and creative arts subjects in particular, at the very heart of the curriculum and of the wider learning experience.

As Project Leader for the Plymouth School of Creative Arts, Louise has played a formative role in the making of a school, a project that Sir Nicholas Serota, Director of Tate, has described as a model of potentially national significance. Louise is developing her interests in the community and partnership dimensions of this trans-generational project, designed to deliver innovation in creative pedagogy and community regeneration in the Millbay and Stonehouse area, a council ward with 43% child poverty.
