Neil Rose
Senior Lecturer in BA (Hons) Film & Screen Arts
<p dir="ltr">Neil Rose is a sound designer and academic who specialises in electroacoustic/acousmatic music, live performance, film, animation and design. He studied sonic arts at Middlesex University, and lectures in Film & Screen Arts here at the university.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Neil undertakes frequent collaborations with film and performance/live artists as well as being a successful recording artist, publishing on One C, Café Concrete and Prima Rosa records, and has had work internationally distributed and reviewed by The Wire magazine.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Specialising in sound, Neil also has a wealth of experience in post production, visual effects and film editing. His deep technical knowledge of the industry, from conception right the way through to the output of films, makes him a fantastic addition to the Film & Screen Arts courses.</p>

<table><tbody><tr><td><p dir="ltr">Neil Rose has a deep understanding of Avant Garde composition, sound recording, sound editing and diffusion practices, Rose uses this understanding to sonically explore the way he personally experiences the world. This is partly inspired by practices such as Acoustic Ecology, but instead of attempting to retain the existing sounds of the world, Rose attempts to lead a listener through his perception of it, modelling sound in stereo or multichannel space to reflect his sensorial understanding of texture, shape, form and feeling. Rose’s work is more emotional and sensorial than simply academic in its creation and this is due to his long standing love of avant garde composers, such as John Cage, Pierre Schaeffer, Philip Glass and Alvin Lucier, interweaving his personal interests in the metaphysical, organised belief systems and the paranormal as a manifestation of connected human emotion and feeling.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Neil Rose employs this understanding to produce moving and highly effective sound design for film and media that transcends simply Foly, to create spaces and worlds as well as convey emotion to a viewer.</p></td></tr></tbody></table>
