Mia Kinchin shortlisted for Adobe Digital Edge Award

21-year-old Arts University Plymouth BA (Hons) Fashion Media & Marketing student makes the shortlist for influential digital creativity award
<p dir="ltr">Mia Kinchin, a <a href="https://www.aup.ac.uk/courses/undergraduate/ba-hons-fashion-media-marketing">BA (Hons) Fashion Media &amp; Marketing</a> student due to graduate from Arts University Plymouth this summer, has been selected from thousands of applicants to make the shortlist of ten finalists for the prestigious Adobe Digital Edge Awards.</p> <p dir="ltr">The Digital Edge Awards by Adobe celebrate the very best of student projects that use Adobe Creative Cloud tools, including Photoshop, Illustrator or Premiere Pro, to take their creative work to the next level.<br /></p>

<p dir="ltr">21-year-old Mia Kinchin is a passionate documentary filmmaker and photographer with a love for storytelling and a keen eye for capturing life. Within her creative practice, Mia is drawn to South Devon’s rich history, diverse culture, and its people, aiming to shed light on the untold stories of people in the region.</p> <p dir="ltr">Mia said: “I entered the Adobe Digital Edge Awards because I used Premiere Pro to edit my documentary films and feel like the editing process is one of the most important parts of creating any film. These are renowned, international awards so I was completely shocked when I received the email saying I had been shortlisted! I’m so proud to make it into the top ten finalists and I’m excited to have my filmmaking recognised in this way.<br /></p>

<p dir="ltr">“I chose to study BA (Hons) Fashion Media &amp; Marketing at Arts University Plymouth because I felt it would allow me to experiment and I knew that I wasn’t going to be restricted to one practice. The course has allowed me to try new things and really figure out what makes me passionate, which I found is moving image and videography, especially documentary style. I love to explore different communities and cultures and help represent people who may not have the confidence or platform to do so for themselves. <br /></p>
In the future I’m going to keep creating documentaries based around subjects and communities that inspire me and that I feel have a story to tell. I love collaborating with other filmmakers and creatives to make work that’s understood and appreciated by different communities.

<p dir="ltr">Kirsty Smith, Senior Lecturer &amp; Course Leader for BA (Hons) Fashion Media &amp; Marketing at Arts University Plymouth, said: “Mia's passion for sustainability led her down an unexpected path, focusing on farming. The everyday conversations in her Fashion Media &amp; Marketing course inspired her to see the world differently. These discussions challenged her to apply her critical thinking skills to another industry. Her innovative approach involved using the knowledge she gained from film and marketing modules to explore a local sustainable industry. The result was an inspiring film that educates its audience about alternative approaches to dairy farming. While our students may choose to study fashion themes, this demonstrates how the skills they acquire are easily transferable to other areas of industry. We look forward to seeing more work from Mia in the near future.”<br /></p>

<p dir="ltr">The Digital Edge Awards were launched in the UK in 2019 to showcase how students are using creativity and digital literacy skills to bring their learning to life. Since then the awards were expanded to the US, receiving thousands of entries from university students studying subjects ranging from engineering and marketing to sciences and environmental management.</p> <p dir="ltr"><a href="https://www.aup.ac.uk/courses/undergraduate/ba-hons-fashion-media-marketing/careers-and-alumni">BA (Hons) Fashion Media &amp; Marketing</a> students at Arts University Plymouth have also collaborated with Vogue, ID Magazine, It’s Nice That, Dior, GQ, Urban Outfitters, Topshop and Finisterre. With industry links, guest speakers and internships on offer, this creative and hands-on degree is for students who aspire to work in fashion imaging, styling, social media, branding or publishing, producing graduates who are ready for a wide range of roles in the global fashion, lifestyle and beauty industries.
